Nói thiệt is the Southern counterpart of nói thật. It means to say what one believes is true or, at the start of a statement, to signal that one is speaking honestly or frankly.

Nói thiệt là collocation rất thường trong lời Nam Bộ, tương ứng nói thật. Ở nghĩa hành động, cụm chỉ việc nói điều người nói cho là đúng sự thật, kể rõ chuyện đã giấu hoặc trả lời thành thật; có thể đi với với + người, cho + người + nghe, hết, đi, coi. Ở chức năng diễn ngôn, nói thiệt, hoặc tui nói thiệt mà mở lời hay nhấn rằng người nói đang nói thật lòng, nói thẳng theo đánh giá của mình. Tiếng Anh tùy câu là tell the truth, be honest, tell someone honestly, honestly, to be frank hoặc I mean it. Lời tự nhận nói thiệt không phải bằng chứng độc lập rằng nội dung đúng hoặc trí nhớ chính xác; cũng không mặc định thú tội, khai hết mọi chuyện, lời nói lịch sự, được phép tiết lộ hay người nghe phải tin.
