Sanh ra is the older and Southern form of sinh ra. Depending on grammar, it means (1) to be born or come into existence, (2) to give birth to or produce something, or (3) for a difference, event, result, or problem to arise. Sanh corresponds to sinh 生, while ra is a native Vietnamese result or direction element; the whole phrase is not presented as a Chinese loan. Context must identify agency, parentage, cause, and responsibility.

Sanh ra là dạng cũ và Nam Bộ của sinh ra, có ba khung chính. Không có tân ngữ, người hoặc sinh vật sanh ra là chào đời, bắt đầu có mặt: em sanh ra chưa đầy tháng, mới sanh ra. Có chủ thể và tân ngữ, cụm có thể chỉ sinh đẻ hoặc tạo nên: má sanh ra con, đất sanh ra huê lợi. Với danh từ sự việc làm chủ ngữ hay đứng sau hoàn cảnh, cụm chỉ điều gì nảy sinh hoặc thành kết quả: bất đồng sanh ra, để lâu sanh ra nhiều điều bất lợi. Dạng sanh nối với sinh 生; ra là thành tố Việt biểu thị hướng/kết quả, nên không dựng một tổ hợp chữ Hán cho toàn cụm. Không đếm máy móc phát sanh ra, khai sanh ra, nảy sanh ra, sản sanh ra khi động từ chính là tổ hợp dài hơn. Riêng cụm không đủ xác nhận định mệnh, cha mẹ duy nhất, quan hệ pháp lý, nguyên nhân duy nhất, ý định, lỗi hoặc trách nhiệm.
