Nhứt là dạng cũ và dạng Nam Bộ của nhất (一), mang các nét một, đứng đầu, duy nhất hoặc hợp thành một thể trong những tổ hợp đã quen: thứ nhứt, duy nhứt, nhứt định, nhứt là, thống nhứt, hiệp nhứt. Không thay mọi chữ nhất bằng nhứt trong văn chuẩn hiện nay, nhưng phải giữ dạng nhứt trong lời nhân vật, văn liệu và tên riêng. Đặc biệt không nhập nhứt (一, một) với nhựt (日, mặt trời/ngày) dù hai dạng cùng gặp trong lời và văn Nam Bộ.
