An informal adjective, originally associated with southern Vietnamese speech and now widespread, for someone who acts aloof, self-important, or deliberately hard to approach. It is usually critical, although close friends may use it teasingly.

Tính từ khẩu ngữ, có gốc dùng vùng Nam Bộ và nay phổ biến rộng, dùng để chê người tỏ ra làm cao, ta đây, lạnh nhạt hoặc khó gần dù không nhất thiết có lý do. Trong nhóm thân, từ có thể dùng trêu nhẹ; với người lạ, nó là đánh giá tiêu cực. “Sang chảnh” là một tổ hợp riêng thiên về vẻ sang trọng, không làm cho “chảnh” đứng một mình tự động thành lời khen.

🇬🇧 Acting aloof, self-important, or deliberately difficult to approach in a way that makes others feel dismissed. Being quiet or needing privacy alone does not make someone chảnh.
