Danh từ Nam Bộ tương ứng kính/gương theo vật được nói tới: (1) vật liệu hay tấm trong suốt trong cửa kiếng, tủ kiếng, vách kiếng: glass, glass pane; (2) mặt phản chiếu để soi trong soi/coi kiếng: mirror; (3) kính đeo mắt hoặc kính bảo vệ trong đeo kiếng, mắt kiếng, kiếng mát: glasses, spectacles, sunglasses, goggles tùy loại. Kiếng là dạng ngữ âm vùng có quan hệ với kính 鏡, nhưng không vì vậy mà mọi kết hợp có kính đều tự đổi thành kiếng. Phân biệt kiếng với kiểng chỉ cây cảnh, kẻng hoặc cảnh ngộ cũ; cũng không dịch cửa kiếng thành mirror door hay đeo kiếng thành wear glass.
